We are pleased to present the June 2002 newsletter for CPI Central Asia, informing our users of the latest developments on the website.
The Conflict Prevention Initiative (CPI) internet portal on Central Asia was launched by the Harvard Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research (HPCR) in December 2001 to offer reliable and updated news and analysis on the political, humanitarian and security situation in the region.
Since its launch, the portal has attracted over 1,400 users, including policy makers, representatives of the United Nations, local and international NGOs and the academic community. The portal also hosted the first ever international e-conference on Afghanistan (Please see details below).

Afghanistan E-conference Report
For two weeks in April and May 2002, the Conflict Prevention Initiative hosted the first international e-conference on "Securing Communities for Reconstruction in Afghanistan." The majority of the over 90 participants were Afghan NGO and civil society leaders working in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran. Other participants included representatives of inter-governmental organizations, international NGOs, academic institutions and donor governments.
To view the final report, which captures the results of this unique online discussion, click here:
