The House of People’s Representatives (DPR) has 500 seats, 462 of are elected by popular vote, while 38 are representatives appointed by the military. Members of the House serve five-year terms. The next election is scheduled for June 2004. The People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) meets every five years to elect the president and vice-president and approve the general outlines of the national policy. The Assembly includes the DPR as well as 200 indirectly selected members.
